| Gender: | In regular ticto barbs, the male is slightly more brightly colored, with spotted dorsal, anal, and pelvic fins, and the female is plumper. In the Odessa variety, the male has bright red flanks and yellow fins, while the female is more drab in color with orange fins. |
| Breeding: | Odessa barbs are egg scatterers. They will lay their eggs on anything in the aquarium. Parents must be separated from the eggs or they will eat them. Fry will eat tiny live foods, especially "green water". Juveniles grow rapidly. |
