| Temperament: | Predatory; Predatory but not aggressive. Will generally leave other fish alone, but will not hesitate to chase other fish out of its lair. Because it hunts by smell more than sight, occasionally its tankmates may come off with a bite. |
| Diet: | Carnivore; In the wild, E. rhodochilus eats primarily small crustaceans and mollusks, as other members of the genus. It will, however, readily accept live fish and after settling in, previously frozen fish or meat. |
| Care: | Feed small fish and shrimps. As a member of the genus Echidna, this fish can easily crush crustacean shells with its flat molar like teeth. Can be trained to accept frozen chunks of shrimp, fish, and beefheart. Provide ample hiding spaces. This fish is ideally brackish, but is amphidromous in the wild. Salinity can vary. Do not use any medications with this fish. Care should be taken when handling this fish, it is known as a biter when it feels threatened. |

| Comments: | This fish can be identified by it's brown or black body color with yellow or olive fins and tail. In addition, it will have white, pink, or red spots on its cheeks. This fish stays fairly small for a moray. It also has a blunter head than other freshwater morays, such as Gymnothorax tile and Gymnothorax polyuranodon. Rests with head outside of lair and mouth open to provide it with extra oxygen. |
