| Gender: | Very difficult to determine in standard aquarium specimens, as most are exported while still young. Adults express a notable difference in odontodal size. |
| Breeding: | Accomplished but details are, as of yet, unknown, though they have been readily bred in Germany for some time. The Gold Nugget Pleco is a cave breeder. Sometimes the caves that are provided for breeding purposes are ignored and the fish will burrow under a log to create their own cave. A strong current pointed towards the breeding cave, as with all similar loricariids, does little to aid spawning and often results in a substantially lower fertilization rate. |
