I just received my new light for my 29G. It’s a 65W power compact for freshwater, 6700K.

After attaching the mounting legs I put it over the tank and turned it on.

OMG

The tank seems to be neon green now. I am not sure if I can get used to this. I know that the
6700K is good for plant growth, but I had no idea…

This picture is with the old 40W AGA Fluorescent light:

Hi,
Absolutely beautiful.
Watch it for a while, it will grow on you and the plants
will love it.

I think the new lights make the tank look alot better. It looks more evenly planted for some reason - like the tank is more filled in. The old lights though gave accents to the plants and finer details.

C'mon Ingo ! Just look at the difference in the color of the plants

The slightly washed out look of the first pic and the vibrant healthy green of the second. What's not to like

That's what you wanted right ? A tank full of healthy colorful plants ? Now you're on the way. As Frank said watch those guys go nuts in the coming days

All I can see is a very healthy glow. The plants, fish and you will love it just sit back and enjoy and watch those plants grow.

I understand you as I have one like that myself. It's too green and although it makes the plants look better (to a certain extent), it makes the fish look drab.

My solution is to use it together with two tubes of around 5000K which are slightly pink. Those highlight the fish's colour and are better for the plants, while the 6700K highlights the greens of the plants. Together they balance each other so you don't get too much green or too much pink, but rather a nice colour.

Anyway, if you can't put two tubes, just leave it and you'll get used to it.

Hi,
Actually, you are looking at the plants without any
artificial "coloring" from the lighting. Pink or Blue
tinges from lights, to me, ruin the true colors of
the plants.

What you are looking at is the correct color rendering
of the plants you have chosen. Also you are looking at
the beginning of a beautiful carpet the light will seem
brighter in the lower, open, area.

Now you understand that one of the ways to aquascape a
tank is not only by shapes of leaves, but by variations
in the greens that they come in. When the stem plants
"come in" you can allow them to strike the surface and
grow across it to produce areas of shade for the lower
light plants. Just don't allow them to grow out over
your open area where they would shade the carpet.

To break up the greens, try something like a Red
Temple plant or some of the Bronze wendi's, etc.
to break it up.

Frank

The first picture is quite dark and the second is full of glare like you would find with sunlight. You can see the reason those type of bulbs are not put in offices or home lights as often. That also makes the plants stand out more but personally I don't really like alot of glare. I feel like I need to get my sunglasses out to look at my tank even with just 40w on the 20g.
