Okay, to clear things up: There is a spotted version of C. trilineatus (it has been mentioned several times already in this thread, but ignored). They look just like julii cories, but they are not. Labrakitty, the fish at your store are probably these.

And, for a picture of the true julii cory, look at this link: [link=http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/callicht/corydora/378_1.php]http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/callicht/corydora/378_1.php" style="COLOR: #808080[/link]

It is very difficult to find photos of the true julii cory, because it is so difficult to verify whether a fish is julii or not.

so why do people want juliis so much, the trilines are equally cute and awesome
I couldn't agree with you more devon In fact I think the trilines a nicer looking corie anyway, maybe it's a form of fish snobbery?

There are a few commercial exporters in C. julii's range, but none of them ship the fish to Australia (or the US for that matter).

That's the point - julii and trilineatus can be essentially identical to anyone who's not an icthyologist, which is why the smart thing is to assume any fish in the trade is trilineatus, since julii just plain isn't exported.

It's better to grab some, as true Julii are quite difficult to find.

They look exactly like that and I know they are true julii as there is a cory book there for $94.00 which has every single cory in tehre with a photo and information on it and it has all the different variants of julii and the one at the shop is identical to one of the ones in the photo in the book. They are definitely true julii!

I know my lfs has true Julii because the other day I was there looking at corys and I was looking at eh tank of Juliis. Then I saw one and realised it was the odd one out. Its lines were more squiggly and joint, than the Julii and I didn't know what it was so I asked them and they got out their very amazing cory book which like every single cory in the world.(A photo of all of them) And they said it was a true trilineatus. It looked completely different to the Julii so they must be true Julii! And they are probably the most common cory at that aquarium. (My lfs) I am getting some of each!

How are you sure that they don't label things incorrectly? As seen above, even trilines can be nonreticulated.

uhh i'm pretty sure the only difference between juliis and triline is juliis are slightly smaller and less rounded i believe, but its near impossible to tell if they are juliis especially if they are not fully mature.

but yeah, there are trilineatus with the spotted pattern and also supposedly juliis with the reticulated pattern (which is the norm for trilines), so its impossible to judge by that...

....so why do people want juliis so much, the trilines are equally cute and awesome!

They are real Julii as the spots definitely are not joined. I know they don't label things wrongly nad they are pretty expencive. \they look very different from the Trilineatus, as the spots aren't joined.

My LFS had 6 of the Julii's. I bought them and they died in my move. LOL. I have 1 that survived in my 30 gallon. I wish I had my 6 back?

They are most likely just a spotted version of C. trilineatus (I have some myself). They look very similar to C. julii, but they are not found in C. julii's range, and they only breed with C. trilineatus.

Ummm... I hate to rain on your parade, but I really doubt that they have true julii. They are just so hard to come across, I don't see how your store would have gotten so many of them. On top of that, there are two variations of C. trilineatus that come to mind right now. One of them is markedly dissimilar to C. julii, because it has connected lines on its head instead of spots. The other version of C. trilineatus has a spotted head area, just like a julii cory. It is very easy to mistake these fish for one another, as I'm sure your lfs has done.

Also, if the store has true julii cories, they will probably be priced higher than all the other cories in the store. Collectors who know that they actually have the true julii tend to charge more for these fish than for trilineatus.

I've seen both at my LFS... or at least, they were marked julii and I saw some that were definitely trilines in the tank, along with others that resembled julii descriptions and pics.
