How many Fales Julii cories can I have in a 10 gallon with a Whisper filter and not have to do more water changes than the standard 10% weekly?

After the max. ammount of cories is added, would there be room for any other, say centerpiece fish or perhaps a trio of male guppies?

Cories are very social and schooling fish and really shouldn't be kept in groups less than 6. Really a ten gallon tank is too small to keep a group of this size of the species that you want IMO.

A better fit would be Corydoras habrosus which is much smaller and would be a better fit for this tank. A group of 6 to 8 should work out. Here's the link to their profile.

You could then keep a smaller centerpiece fish such as a dwarf gourami or even possibly a betta with them.

A good stocking for the 20 would be
8-10 cories
4-6 Male guppies
Pair of rams or a Dwarf Gourami

Well, the 20 gallon is much better that the 10 and I think a group of 6 or 8 of the False Julii would work fine in that. You could then have a dwarf gourami or 2 as well as a small school of some other small tetra or barb.

I don't think that I would go with just the Cory's as they pretty much occupy the very lowest portion of the tank and as such the tank would look empty with just them in there. However, if you really just want them, then probably 8 to 10 would be okay.

I think I might do that, have 7 False Juliis and then have 7 or 8 neon/black neon/glow lite tetras.

Instead of the DG or the 4 guppies, (they were only if I could have cories in a 10 gallon) is there any other centerpiece fish (besides a betta) that I could do?
I would do the pair of rams, but when I had them before, they would always stay at the bottom and be extremely shy. If you could help me with this, I think I might go with a pair of those.

Well, if not going with the DG then why not increase the number of tetras to say 10 or 12. I think that would make a very nice display.

You can also have 2 schools of Tetras & the Corydoras at the bottom. Personally i would try the Rams, with 1 school of Tetra & Corydoras. Maybe you can add some low light/maintenance plants aswell.

jasonpisani: I have had plants before in the tank...they didn't work out too well because they didn't sell java fern/moss or any other low light plant that could take less than one wpg: The max wattage for the tank was only 15w. Thanks for the input any way!

OldTimer: Thanks, I think I will just go for the cories and bump up the school of tetras to 10 or 11.

Thanks every one for the help!
