keithgh *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 6371 Kudos: 6918 Votes: 1542 Registered: 26-Apr-2003 | I gave up with the ottos about 10 months ago after I lost the last two. After a bit of research I decided to buy some Cherry Red Shrimps about 5 months ago. Today all of a sudden there is one Otto sitting on a piece of DW. This Otto must mainly come out of a night time, what else can I say. keithgh *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 6371 Kudos: 6918 Votes: 1542 Registered: 26-Apr-2003 | Because of the heat the tank temp went up a bit. Now I have turned the temp down a litle other than that nothing at all. With the heat I have had part of the glass top off this has meant more evaporation and I have topped up from 1.5 -2lt of stored prepared water during the week. Even in the Panda Fun palace I have to send out a robot submersible to find mine at times! However, here's something you can try if you want to make them more visible - I recently purchased some Ludwigia palustris for the Panda Fun Palace, and my Otocinclus seem to LOVE perching around them! If you're able to feed your Otocinclus with Hikari wafers as well, this is a good way of bringing them out, if they don't have to compete with a huge brace of other bottom feeders for these. The moment mine get a sniff of Hikari wafer, they're out at the front homing in on them, and I then have the fun of watching them trying to push past the Panda Corys to get to them! |

I can not remember when I last saw 2 Ottos out at the same time. What is going on with these two Ottos. I fully realize there is a lot of algae but I am not worried one bit the shrimp love it. It is mainly there because it is slower growing plant than all the Crypts. Glad to see that the tank is still going great and hey ottos reappearing is awesome! "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Thomas Carlyle |

keithgh *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 6371 Kudos: 6918 Votes: 1542 Registered: 26-Apr-2003 | houston Its been just over 12 months since I took that photo and today you cannot see any substrate at all. In fact today I am taking out many of the larger Crypts that have just got out of control. I bought all of the mini crypts directly from the same grower and apparently the second lot they were of a slightly different variety and have grown twice the height they should be. Which means a few alterations have to be done. Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. I VOTE DO YOU if not WHY NOT? I should do more with the tank but heck, Gilbert the betta boy seems happy. Heidi "I've got a great ambition to die of exhaustion rather than boredom." Thomas Carlyle |
