By the time they are around an inch long or so. Look for orange bellies.

its funny, b/c my main pair laid another set of eggs y esterday.

anyway i usually feed the parents frozen bllood worms and tetramin color bits.

the fry will eat that after awhile of seeing their parents.
But for the first few days i often see the fry eatting "stuff" off of the rocks in my tank. probably brown algae.

Yeah I am sure there are things in the tank they eat for quite a while. I never used to feed them any thing special but I seemed to have fry.

Interesting thing in my tank with Convicts right now. I have my original pair (black male, pink female) and a black female fry that I kept because she had nice colors. At this point she is getting ready to spawn and is creating weird stuff in the tank with the parent cons. She seems to be dispaying to her momma and the momma and her seem to be trying to push the male around. It is quite interesting.

Yes, Someone correct me if I am wrong but I hear that if you breed the offspring you have a good chance of getting pink fry. Can anyone confirm this? Also how do you sex pink convicts?

I am not sure on the gentics to get pink from blacks. Sexing pink cons is just like blacks. Look for longer fins on the males and an orange belly on the females. My female gets extremely orange right before a spawn but turns pearlish right after.

longer fins isn't an accurate way to distinguish males from females. I've had several females with very long fin extensions. the orange bellies is definitely the best way to tell though it can be kind of hard to see on female pinks. if you look close enough though you should be able to see it.
