Ok my new cichlid keep going up against rock and keep twitching and turning on its side like by its gill and i wonder is he itchy or is it sick????

unless he is doing it constantly or displaying other unusual tendancys (ie not eating, hiding alot etc...) then dont worry thats just what they do.

Most likely a parasite.

Can you tell us more about the tank?

Size
water parameters?
What fish are in there?
How long has the fish being doing this?
Did you add any other new fish lately?
All the fish doing this?
Is the fish breathing abnormal. Is the breathing rapid or are the gill swollen, inflamed, and/or rapidly moving.


Are you fimilar with the disease ICK?
This is one of the most common parasite/disease that people experience.


African cichlids for the most part have been known to stratch from time to time. If it is constantly stratching for the most part it is due to an disease, parasite and/or illness.

Unless hes got white dots on him or any other problems then I wouldn't be worried. Mine do it all the time. It messed with me the first couple times but Ich never appeared and now I just ignore it.
