Ok so so far I'm thinking of, in a 39G 3ft,
1 male Bol Ram
6+ lemon tetra
possible 1 BN depending on number of lemon tetra.

I was also looking at instead of the lemon tetra maybe going with chile barbs or red phantoms.
I know both of these species can at times be fin nippers but I know a person who has chile barbs in with angels, dwarf gouramis and paradise fish atm and they dont seem to be nipping so perhaps its a matter of luck whether I would end up with nippers or not.

Pair of Bolivian Rams, 6/8 Lemon Tetra's & a BN would be great. Add some Driftwood & some Plants for a SA tank.

yeah not really going for a SA tank as such and prefering to stick to the single Ram assuming he wouldn't be stressed in his solitude.

Maybe you can get some Corydoras & stay with 1 Ram.

Wait, I'm confused. You're saying that you aren't going for a South American tank, but you want to stock it with lemon tetras, a Bolivian ram, and a bristlenose?

And also, are you looking for help on what else to add? This would look nice, but I don't know if you want so many of just one species of tetra. Lemons are awesome though, so tons of them would make for a cool tank.

One bristlenose
One Bolivian ram
Thirty lemon tetras

That help any? I'm sorry, but I really don't know what you need help with.:%)

Like many people I used to want as many different types of fish as possible. Now though I personally prefer a tank with a large school of one species, perhaps a centerpiece fish or two, and of course some bottom feeders

By not going for a SA tank I meant as a biotope. Just simply that I would be sticking to a neutral pH without driftwood and the like.
Any comments on the use of chile barbs or red phantoms?

And yeah sorry sirbooks, I am going for a single species dither fish on this one.

What is a chile barb? Never heard of them. I would have:
1 bolivian ram
20 lemon tetras
1 brislte nose
6 panda corys

I really think you should go for a pair of Bolivian Rams.
You will never really see your ram at his best unless he has another ram to hang out with.
They have such a wonderful social structure, such dynamic gorgeous fish.
If I were you I would go for a group of Rams.
I have 5 and they are so awesome together.
