My yellow tang seems to be scratching it's mouth/gill area from time to time on rocks and on the sand bed...is it parasite?

Should I do a freshwater dip?

FW dips have limited results. If the fish is stressed it will become more stressed. If it's not stressed, it will become stressed. Both can cause more problems. If possible, remove to a Qtank and treat with meds. If this is not possible, then upping the temp a few degrees, and turning down the length the lights are on in a day will help. Also, leave the tank alone, keep your hands out of the tank. If the fish is strong, it can fight off many problems on it's own.

I do have a Q-tank, but afraid of using it, non of the fish survived when I put them into the Q-tank to treat. But many does when I just treat my main tank...but I know that fish aren't sick will get stressed by unnecessary medications. So that's why I was thinking a FW dip might help....

So what temp should I set to? how about lower the salinty? to how much?

You can up your temp to 81f or 82f over a few days. Dont just turn it up. The temp needs to go up slow. As for changing the salinity. I would suggest agenst that unless you have a fish only tank. Drops in salt can kill inverts such as corals, shrimp, crabs, etc.

Try this to move your sick fish to your Qtank. Get a plastic pitcher and put that in the tank. Then use your net to slowly move the fish in to the pitcher, then lift it up and move it to the Qtank. This should keep the stress levels as low as possible. You can also do this after the lights go out.
