As you can see it is not the easiest tank to photograph.
What I have done was to remove a huge piece of DW (it was shelter for the M Betta )this now has opened up the tank a lot.

I have had no luck with stem plants at the back so out they came and replaced with the tall Crypts (unknown) I replanted them three weeks ago and new leaves already. As they multiply they will form a thick backing.

On the left are the Anubias nana just fixed to a few small rocks and as you can see it is a mini jungle in there.

The very small Crypts parva are in the front right hand side.

The slightly larger crypts behind and at the side a little are Crypt nevilli.

Between the DW and the crypts there is a small strip vacant I have ordered 10 more C nevilli but will not be getting them for a few months.

I would appreciate you opinions on this tank please.

Second photo you can see the depth of the gravel.
I now have a Hagen HOB this also gives me more room.

The back black paint requires a touch up as the photo shows.

NICE SETUP !!!

the balance of thick lush plants on the left on the DW and the open swim area with thinner low level cover on the right,
EXCELLENT !!!! I can't think of anything that would make the internal arrangement any better, well organized and natural !!

Masterfully created !!, can't wait to see how everything grows out and develops , again well done, love it!!
keep the pics and updates comin'

J.

A nice peaceful layout for the tetras.
I am not much of an expert on crypts; do they get tall and bushier over time?
It's lovely Keith. Looks like your hard work and attention to detail has paid off for you.

That backing Crypt gets a little taller see crypts on LH side. They also have a lot of new plantlets I had one runner that went close to the full width of the tank before a new shoot started.
When they get to about 5cm-2ins I replant them about two years ago I started of with one little plantlet that came with some Val now I have at least 10 good sized plants.

Any thing would be better that dying back stem plants and having to continually replant them.

That tank looks awsome..well done Keith
I think those plants you got are very easy to keep..right?
Do you have only gravel or do you have anything else to make the plants grow?
Very nice tank..I like it

I know human beings and fish can co-exist peacefully.

Looking great, as always, Keith
I love how one half of the tank is densely planted, while the other half is fairly open. Ive never seen anything quite like it, but nonetheless it's amazing.

The gravel is just 1-3mm natural river pebbles. The small round balls are a open clay based material (like terracotta) they are supposed to hold the bacteria not like the river stones.

I use Seachem Liquid ferts as recommended by Seachem) and every three months 4 Seachem plant pellets.

The light is a twin Aqua 1 unit 1 plant & 1 daylight tube it is on for 13 hrs like as in the tropical sun.

Algae is not a problem as long as the plants keep growing also I have 1 small SAE & 1 Otto which never stop cleaning.

Zach
The reason for that is the Cardinals prefer to live in the open from bottom to mid level and if any thing happens they dart into the dense Anubias. At night they often sleep in there as well.

Finally I am a firm believer build and design a tank for the fish not for yourself. In other words try to make it look natural then let nature take over.
