hello all! Since starting liquid ferts and some root tabs, I have begun to see a good bit of hair algae. I have a Gold algae eater, but he doesn't seem to be much interested in munching down the hair...

Does anyone have any experience with how to get rid of the hair algae?

It's on my plants, in a 10g with 1 male betta, 7 harlequin raspboras and a gold algae eater. I also have a snail outbreak I intend to rememdy with a skunk botia, once I finish treating for Ich and clearing out the meds....

The hair algae, is this the fuzzy black (a.k.a. red) algae that sticks like glue?

I vote! Do you?

It would appear that I have Fuzz algae (a monir beard algae) based on the photos in that link Keith. I havent seen the Gold Algae Eater munching on it though... So, I am not sure how to get rid of it. Maybe I just need to not worry about it!

I know nothing about the Golden AE are the same as the CAE but a golden colour?

I have a small SAE in my Betta tank and when it gets a bit bigger it is transferred to the 5ft and another small SAE goes into the Betta tank.
Combined with the Ottos I have a very small amount of algae in the tank.

Hi Scott!

I have only had one experience with algae & it was hair algae. Mine was pretty green with long flowing strands & spread over the whole tank. I finally got rid of it & this is how:
