One of my Botia Sidthimunki has managed to get a piece of food jammed in his gill. I've just fed them some mosquito larvae and he's managed to get one of them trapped in his gill, so it looks like there's a silvery 'worm' coming out of the side of his head. (I could be wrong, is there a parasite which fits this description, although I didn't notice it before I fed them).

Any advice on how to get this out of there? I've tried to net him, but as soon as it gets near him he hides in the undergrowth (it's quite a well planted tank). The other fish have been trying to get it (always after every last scrap of food), but he swims away every time thinking he's being attacked. They did get a good pull on it, but not enough to dislodge it. Is this going to be my best bet, waiting for the others to eat the food?

Is this going to cause the fish problems (assuming that it will become dislodged shortly)? Is there anyway to prevent this happening in the future?

Any advice gratefully received.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. It has happened to mine once in awhile and nothing, it's gone in a day or two.

See my profile (link below) for fish and setup.

Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.

It must have dislodged overnight. Nothing there this morning.

Quite worried when it happened last night.
