Centerpiece fish for a 29 gallon tall? | |
reun Big Fish Posts: 332 Kudos: 216 Registered: 04-Nov-2005 | well, i have a 4" halfway grown koi-colored angelfish in a tank with 5 lemon tetras and 7 corys. well, i saw a full grown angelfish today...they get really...really...really...BIG! i only have a 29 gallon tank, i cant upgrade tank sizes till i get out of the apartments i live at and get into a house, and i dont forsee that for another 2 years...i have been told he will reach full size within the next year, he has already grown in the past few weeks i have had him...he gets fed a steady diet of live and frozen foods(occasionally he eats the tetras freezedried blood worms and their high protien flakes)...some of those monsters get over 6"...i cant imagine that he would be happy in a 29 gallon again...i should have done more research. i made a quick post here and everyone said it would be fine, but now it isnt looking like he will be happy. i have asked some friends and they reccomend that i get two or more, and that they be in a min of a 75 gallon for a pair, and thats a tight fit even so, now i am going to do my homework. i may take the angel back to the LFS, but only as a last resort, i have some friends with much larger tanks that will prolly want him( very well behaved community angel),he has very nice coloring, very pretty. anyway, what will THRIVE in a 29 gallon tall with 5 lemon tetras(might expand the school to 6 if everyone will fit happily) and 7 julli corys??? something so that even if i cant get a larger tank even if its full grown, the fish will still be healthy and happy. i was thinking a gourami that would stay under 4", even a 4" fish seems large for a 29 tall....any other ideas? i would like a "centerpiece" fish, betas prolly out cause he would most likely flog the tetras(the lemons are bright and have long fins)...anyone have any suggestions and i will start doing my homework. it needs to be a non agressive single fish that doesnt need a school...water peramiters are at 7.0ph and i keep the temp at 80 currenty. a heardy fish is always a plus too Last edited by reun at 09-Jan-2006 19:41 |

The opaline i would get as a female or any gournami i would get as a female i can keep the females alive but after 4 months the males all seem to die happened 3 times so i gave up on them. Possibly some bolivians, a single krib maybe, possibly 1 or 2 dwarf cichlids, i have 2 dwarf peacocks with 10 black phantom and they get along great. |

As long as you keep it to just the one angel as your centerpiece in the 29 gallon you should be fine. You should be commended however on your concern about overcrowding your fish. Jim |
