I am setting up a tank just for some of these guys in hopes of them breeding. I have a 20 gallon long. I am planning oin using an aquaclear filter for 20 to fifty gallons, but turned down low(they are adjustable)(the filter is completely cycled, an extra one I have had on my 55 gallon). Would there be an advantage to a bare bottom tank? I was planning on using java moss, java fern and possibly crypts and anubias. They are about 1cm long at the moment. As they are a newer fish, breeding reports are scarce, but it is reported to have been done.
They are fed cyclopes and brine shrimp in the store.

any suggestions would be welcome.

Thank you

As no one else as jumped in here with a reply, I searched a little bit on google and found this link to another forum with a post concerning the breeding of these fish. Not very extensive, but it may give you some ideas as to the requirements.

Also check out the "Pictures of new Galaxy Rasbora" thread by Natalie on the General board (sorry, dont know how to do the links). Cali has posted a link to another page with tips, and we're hoping that Natalie has some luck with breeding them and we'll get a few tips on that thread.

Good luck, they're a lovely fish.

That post in the Indian Aquatic forums basically reproduces the original Practical Fishkeeping article I pointed people to here. Nice to see the information being replicated though.

I don't think a bare bottom would be really beneficial because these guys lay eggs (i think) and will possible try and eat the eggs. I would go with larger gravel or marbles.
