SAE are always good algae eaters. This will only remove some of the algae what you should be doing is removing the cause of it as well.
Snails sorry I can not help you there.
I suggest you post a lot more info about your tank plus a full water parameters test.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

I would suggest Otto Cats over a SAE. SAE generally learn that you will be providing food source, and will stop eat algae over time. The other problem with them is that they get pretty large and put a heavy bio-load on the tank. Most pleco's have the same problems, I have read stories were the waste actually will clog the filter strainer . Otto's are a very useful fish, they work a tank very effectively, they are small and stay small and seem to always be eating, and I never really seen them go after flake or frozen food. They will share algae whaffers.

I bought a Gold Algae Eater to clean the brown diatoms off my plants, rocks and substrate... This little fellow has gotten both my tanks sparkling bright and shiny!

I have noticed over the past couple of days, the development of hair algae. I am curious to see what comes of this...
