Calilasseia Ultimate Fish Guru Panda Funster Posts: 5496 Kudos: 2828 Votes: 731 Registered: 10-Feb-2003	Given that ReefCentral.com already features jokes about reef aquarium keepers with metal halides being raided by the cops who think they're running a hydroponic marijuana farm, I suspect that the lighting required to make a 50,000 gallon tank that's 8 feet deep plantable would involve enough lighting to make the authorities suspect that the aquarist was running a secret nuclear weapons project. Given that David Saxby needs five kilowatts of metal halides on a reef aquarium that's a LOT smaller than 50,000 gallons, I dread to think what would be needed even for a freshwater aquarium of that size. Imagine the lighting needed if that tank was set up as a reef ... you'd need the kind of floodlighting associated with the Houston Astrodome to keep a reef aquarium of that size adequately illuminated! Now that would be a first wouldn't it - the 100,000 watt aquarium lighting system ... Panda Catfish fan and keeper/breeder since Christmas 2002
