Mine did in fact chew away at my sword plant(and other large leaf plants) a bit when there wasn't really anything else for him to munch on. Pushing the sword to grow as fast as it will with CO2 and good lights and nutrients, the sword will outpace the BN. If things aren't growing very well one BN could easily devour a sword plant in a couple weeks if there isn't much else to eat.

That said I still have a BN in my planted tank and doesn't bother things too much, especially when I throw algae wafers at him on a regular basis.

I have 2 BN's in my 125 and they never bother any of my plants. I have 2 huge swords and a lotus. I throw algae wafers in occasionally, but they eat anything I put in. I've seen them sucking crisps off the bottom!

If your BN is bothering your plants it is probably very hungry. I would put in a wedge of zuchini a couple times a week to prevent that from happening.

My BN does not seem to prefer the algae wafers, but I think he probably eats them while I am asleep.
